Easy Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl combines tender chicken with a glossy homemade sauce made from soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Ready in 25 mins, it’s an easy dinner served over fluffy rice with steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil, optional
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 teaspoons cornstarch
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Steamed vegetables, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the skillet: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat until hot.
  2. Cook the chicken: Add the cubed chicken and cook until browned and completely cooked through with no pink remaining. Carefully drain excess liquid if needed.
  3. Mix the sauce: Whisk the soy sauce, water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, honey, and cornstarch together until smooth.
  4. Thicken the sauce: Pour the teriyaki mixture over the cooked chicken. Cook while stirring until the sauce becomes thick, glossy, and evenly coats the chicken.
  5. Assemble the bowls: Spoon cooked rice into bowls, top with teriyaki chicken and steamed vegetables, then garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

Chicken thighs can replace chicken breasts for a juicier result. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, and add a small splash of water when reheating if the sauce becomes too thick.
